Undercoat Comb for Dogs & Cats - Long and Short Teeth

A brush moves the top coat. On a husky, a golden retriever or a long-haired cat, most of the hair that ends up on your floor is the layer underneath, and a brush that skims the surface leaves it where it is.

This comb has two tooth lengths on one head. The long teeth open the coat and lift the loose hair floating in it. The short teeth sit closer to the skin and take the undercoat the brush missed. One pass does both jobs.

What it handles

• Double coats and long hair. Loose undercoat, shed hair sitting in the topcoat, and the small tangles that form behind ears and under legs.
• Two tooth lengths in one head. Long teeth for the floating hair, short teeth for the layer underneath it.
• Rounded tips. Stainless steel teeth with rounded ends, so the comb passes over skin instead of scoring it.
• A slider that clears the teeth. Push the collar down and the hair comes away in one piece.
• 200 mm long, 80 mm head, 48 g. Light enough that you are not tempted to lean on it.

How to use it

Comb in the direction the coat grows, in short strokes, using the weight of the comb and not much more. Work one section at a time and stop when the teeth stop filling up. On a heavy shedder, ten minutes twice a week takes out more hair than an hour once a month.

Before you buy

This is a comb for loose undercoat, not a dematting tool. A mat that sits tight against the skin needs a dematting rake or a groomer, and pulling at it with any comb hurts.

Single-coated pets have no undercoat to take out. If yours is a greyhound, a poodle or a short-haired cat, our glove or our slicker brush is the better tool, and we would rather tell you that here than process a return.
